Just got back from a short break in Florence, Italy. It’s a beautiful country, has amazing architecture, the weather was lovely, and the 4 days I was there seemed to stretch out for ages. All in all, it was a great holiday.
A lot of the buildings there were actually nice on the outside than the inside. The Duomo being the main example. It’s outer is absolutely stunning, the inside is fairly dull except for the decorated ceiling on the inner of the dome.
The food there was great. I had a sort of pattern where I’d have the hotel breakfast, something sweet for lunch (usually a waffle) and pizza for dinner. My kind of diet
On some days I went walking toward the edge of the city, up the hills a bit to get some nice views of the skyline and surrounding parts of Italy. It gave a nice variety to the busy city setting. And busy it was… the traffic was quite insane. Cars, bikes and pedestrians kinda move as one. Sometimes the roads seemed like a free-for-all.
On the last day, I went to see the tower of Pisa. It was a little disappointing in that it had one side with scaffolding on the side, and metal barriers around the bottom. I can understand that they want to keep people out (you have to book a tour to go up there) but it ruined the sight in a way. But I’m still glad that I have seen it.
Would love to return to Italy some day, as I’ve only really scratched the surface of the sights it has to offer.
