Aaagh! Why’s it never easy??

Ok.. so it’s been a while.. but really need to vent now! :P

Today I installed my new graphics card and PSU into my PC. It went really smoothly despite taking a while seeing as I had to move everything into a new case. Then I booted it up and have since had problems playing games and anything that requires anything remotely taxing in the graphics department.

At first I thought it was an overheating issue. I had seen on google that this could happen on this particular model. So, I downloaded a program that lets you customise the fan speed on the graphics card. I bumped it up to 100%… surely that would be ok? Alas, no. It was better though, it lasted longer before presenting me with the Blue Screen of Death. Oh how I hate that screen.

Thing is though… I’ve never had that problem with Vista before. Never (or not that I can remember) a crash or hangup. A friend suggested that perhaps there are some lingering old drivers left over causing problems. He could be right… Vista did go installing stuff before I had a chance to uninstall the old ones (silly me forgot to do it before swapping cards). I uninstalled them for a fresh install but perhaps the damage was already done.

I am now reverting to a piece of software to clean my PC of all traces of video drivers, so that I can again try a fresh install. Problem is it’s taking ages! It started 45 minutes ago! It deleted some files and registry data within the first 5-10 minutes but nothing since. I’m wondering whether to just close it, cause what if it never stops?

Sigh. Such a promising start, but I should have remembered… nothing works first time with computers. Wish me luck.
